Adapt the four P’s of Marketing with Bharathiar University

Marketing
Marketing revolves around customers/consumers, i.e. it starts with them and ends at them. The main aspect of marketing is first to identify the needs and wants of the customers and then produce a satisfactory product for the same purpose. The basic origin of human’s needs and wants keeps marketing alive.

The particular terms “Needs” and “Wants” makes an individual feel discomfort unless it’s resolved with the help of a particular product. For E.g. a particular individual won’t be able to sleep comfortably with an empty stomach. Until the body and stomach is filled with food, only then he/she could peacefully sleep. It’s the marketer’s responsibility to deliver valuable product to the customer. He/she must ensure provide with a product along with an offer that fulfils the needs of the customer.

Marketing is nothing but a set of marketing tools that the organization uses to pursue its marketing objectives with a target market. It’s the sole vehicle for creating and delivering customer value.

A noted market expert, “James Culliton”, coined the expression of marketing and described the marketing manager as a mixer of ingredients. He then further stated marketing man as a decider and an artist who mixes the ingredients, follows a recipe developed by others and with innovation and creative mind prepares his own recipe.

The dynamics of the marketing process and the versatility of the marketing process could further be defined with the four P’s of Marketing: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.

Product: The basic marketing tool is first the product: a product in simpler terms is defined as a consumer able item or goods produced for the consumption of the consumer. The factors associated with product are the products quality, its design, distinctive variety and features, branding & packaging, warranty services, etc.

Price: the next tool is price: which could be defined as the sum of amount of money that a consumer pays or exchange for a product. In marketing the price factor is influenced by:

  • Wholesale and Retail Rates

  • Discounts,

  • Allowances

  • Credit terms.

The price factor decided by the marketer must be perceived with the value of the product in context with expectation and budget of the consumer. The price of the product also keeps fluctuating due to the rising competition in the market.

Place: place refers to the distribution of the product. It stands for the location undertaken by the organization by targeting a group of audience and hence distribution of the product. This target to make the product more accessible for the consumers. This process involves identification, recruitment and linking of various middlemen and marketing facilitators so that products are efficiently supplied to the consumers.

Promotion: The last and the most important tool of marketing is the promotion. Without this a product wouldn’t be sold and the organization wouldn’t earn profit. Promotion indulges activities like to hire such applicants famously known as salesperson to promote its products to middlemen and other buyers. It also includes setting up communication and promotion programs consisting of advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, and public relations.

The four P’s of marketing is the combination of a product, its price, distribution and promotion. This is designed by marketers in such a manner that these four elements together satisfies the needs of the organization’s target market, also achieves its marketing objectives. For an individual to pursue a career in marketing the basic fundamentals must not only be by-hearted but must also master.
